Product Rating: 5 This stuff is awesome!

I am African-American and I used to use Bigen years ago to dye my hair oriental black for the fun of it. It worked very well but eventually I decided to let it grow out. Fast forward over 10 years later and I'm starting to go gray. I asked my sister who is a stylist what is a good brand for covering grays, as I often see so many people color their grays and the color doesn't take. She told me to start using Bigen again and boy was she right! It covered my gray hair like nobody's business. I used brown-black as my own hair is brown and I didn't want it Oriental Black. However it looked Oriental Black anyway, but the grays were totally covered! For African-Americans: when you first use this dye, it will leave your hair with a strange texture. But it will soften up and return to normal after a couple of washes. I recommend using very good moisturizing shampoos and conditioners if you are going to use Bigen. Perhaps it varies for each person but for me, the dark color softened after a few washes and now it's brown when the light hits it. My grays are still covered and the dark color is very natural-looking. So far I've found that the best shampoo and conditioner to use on black hair after putting in Bigen is Creme of Nature Ultra-Moisturizing Shampoo and their moisturizing conditioners. If you have African hair texture and want to cover your grays, Bigen works like a charm!

I have been using Bigen for about 3 months now. I love the way it makes my hair look. It colors the roots so well. It looks closer to my true color. Henna is ok but it takes so long and it always leaves a reddish tone. After 3 months of using the Bigen, I did not treat my hair with conditioner before using and it broke off a lot of my hair. This scared me so I started researching the ingredients. I read that PPD which isp-Phenylendiamin sulfate will eventually dry the hair out. I don't know what else to use, even most of the Henna dyes have this ingredient in it. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love this hair dye! I tried high lights and even a rinse dye and they all disappointed me. I am african american and I dyed my hair oriental black with this product...I couldnt love it more. But I do suggest to get Wen hair care products after to keep the vibrant color and the best look! I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!!!!

Product Rating: 5 great results

Today is the first time my hairdresser tries this product in my hair. My hair is black but the sun is turning my ends brown so i decided that i would like my hair to go jet black to get rid of the brown ends. And it works, its shiny and soft, I haven't suffer from any allergic reaction to it. But i will keep a eye on that. People do a test first before putting this product in your hair, make sure u do a test every time to make sure that nothing happen, because the first time it might not cause any damage but something can happen on the second try....Anyway its a good product

Product Rating: 5 Especially for grays
Reviewer: Anonymous from BALTIMORE  4/2/2009

I've got those coarse grays right in the front of my head. I don't even have to try... I get a little on those grays and the color doesn't fade. I have a friend who says that her hair was steadily thinning, she is always scratching dye out of her hair and that the color does not stay. We found out that she was applying the product improperly. Here are some tips if you need help. - BIGEN is strong, but all permanent dyes are. You must apply it as directed. - If you use product in your hair, you need to pre shampoo (please do not claw through your head) . Bigen takes no time to asorb into the hairshaft once the cuticle is open. - Mix BIGEN until it is the consistency of wet toothpaste. Not too wet. And wait until it starts getting dark before applying. - Rinse until the water streaming from your hair is clear. I suggest that you put your head under the tub faucet so that you can see the water streaming from your hair. - Only apply to the roots or new growth. You shouldn't need to do the entire head each time you color. Some of these tips seem pretty obvious... I hope it helps anyway. BIGEN is Awesome!

Product Rating: 5 Perfect purple!
Reviewer: Juci from   1/19/2009

I used # 96 Deep Burgundy and wow I wished I was born blond or have a full grey of hair in order to make the purple pop out, but I still love my hair. It has purple highlights due to some light grey hair here and there. The natural dark brown turned a dark purple color. I especially love the texture. My hair never felt so manageable since I was a little girl. Best of all no more bundle of hair in the drain. Other dyes would make my hair sticky or worse fall off, but not Bigen. I highly recommend this product. I just wish they would have specials and lower the price (five bucks is too much for a tiny bottle of powder, you can get two boxes of another dye with that same price). Other than price everything else is awesome.

Product Rating: 5 Bigen is the best dye ever!!!!!
Reviewer: Michelle from United States  1/8/2009

I used Bigen for the first time, I attend an Aveda Concept salon and had my hair stylist dyed my hair from Dark Brown to black and the color the salonist used did not take. I used Bigen 6 weeks later for the first time and came out with the blackest black I ever seen my hair. The new trend in ethnic women is black hair and that is what I wanted to acheive and I got it this time. Bigen is the best hands down!!!!

This product is good. I advise that u do a prep skin test and use a protein filler prior to applying the color.

Product Rating: 5 Best darkening hair dye ever !!!
Reviewer: The Countess from New York  12/9/2008

I remember the little box of Bigen hair dye since a was very little, (in the 70's) but tried for the 1st time in year 1990, over the last 20 years ive changed my hair color from deep blue black up to the palest ash/beige blonde...however during the last 4 years ive decided be a dark brunette, and what a better choice that Bigen!! i started with #57(dark brown) which was a little too dark for what i was looking for, over time and as new hair grew (about 2 years) i gradually mixed and then completely switched to #58(medium brown) and its just perfect!! a deep, elegant, luscious dark shade of ash brown....looks extremely shiny, and very soft (No more ammonia, no more peroxide, no more harsh chemicals, or nasty odors, just beautiful dark, natural and healthy hair..another pro is that since this does NOT contain peroxide, u never get that nasty copperish/brassy tone u may get with regular, peroxide based hair dyes, that just appliedd look good but a month later it looks orange agaiinst the light (yuck) Bigen does not even require re-dying, only root touch ups about every 6/8 weeks and a full head coloring every 6 months for refreshing...Yes results are dark, because the formula seems to have a lot of green -excellent to neutralize that nasty orange u get against the light when air is dyed with other products, so DONT USE if you are "afraid of the dark" also u have to apply it VERY fast because the mixture starts working as soon as u mix it with the water, and full developing time is about 20 min so hurry up applying it if u want the best results!! Now that the shade #88(blue black came out im tempted to soak my hair into it, but 1st i want my hair down to my tail bone for that look.
